Today was "Day One" of filming...
Quite a long day but we achieved everything within the scheduled time. As camera operator, the camera was my responsibilty, and I claimed it yesterday after class. Yu Qing and I divided the equipment so that not just one person was expected to carry it all. I charged both batteries and we were ready for today.
We shot scene two first, with Cheng in class finding out his result in an assignment was a fail.
For me the challenge was holding the camera... believe it or not. Occasionally the director (Cindy) wanted to use the camera on its own without the tripod. It was to create that effect of mobility. The camera is not really heavy, but holding it up for a while is quite difficult. I think Cindy's directing and advice were really helpful and she wasn't difficult to work with. We ended up taking turns doing different tasks, I alternated between camera operator and sound person.
Other problems we had were related to light, even outdoors occasionally it was a bit dark, so we used the reflector, which really only worked when there was an actual light source.
I think it took us some time to adjust ourselves in the beginning, so some things happened slower than we would have liked, but overall it was a successful day! And our hard work should be evident in the final product.
