I think Yu Qing's idea about the black background is good. It also adds to the drama. I think we should begin with the black screen and something like "My name is Cheng... I am far away from home" (or whatever) and fade into the scene. He doesn't have to speak these words, they will be on the screen.

We should let the audience know that Cheng is an international student arriving from China, and this is his experience... then we can show the footage. We can also spread these captions on the screen throughout the film for dramatic effect. It is as though Cheng is narrating the story, but we are seeing his thoughts - so this is a good idea, I think!
